We didn’t grow up like our parents did when life was tough and women cleaned house dressed like June Cleaver. In the ’60s and ’70s, we let it all hang out. (pre-HIV) As we grew older, we accepted our responsibilities and a large portion of us made a decent amount of money. Look at Bill Gates and Oprah! The Baby Boomer generation is currently the most prosperous and educated generation today.

Baby Boomers weren’t always nice
In our idealistic youth, we blasted the soldiers coming back from Vietnam. Now our sons AND daughters are shipping out and facing dangers beyond comprehension. We beam with pride amidst trepidation.
Next time you see a Vietnam Vet, or anyone else who has served or is actively serving, please thank him or her for their service. They’ve been through bloody hell.
Our youth is fleeting but we won’t let it
As Baby Boomers, we hate the thought of getting old and strive to live as long as possible. We’re on a constant mission to stay healthy, get in shape, erase wrinkles, avoid getting sick, and keep making love. Who would have imagined watching ED commercials at the dinner table?
We’re also seeking mental and spiritual transformation, reinvention, and happiness above all.
We’re not just talking about saving whales – we’re saving the world
We may have been singing “Give Peace a Chance” when we were young, but now the Baby Boomer generation is actively out there making a difference. Many of our businesses have non-profits attached to them. We run 5 K’s, do fundraisers, and work in soup kitchens.
and we’re still having fun
Our depression-era parents may have been martyrs but we don’t have that mindset. We are out there experiencing life in all its glory. We’re traveling, connecting, and taking crazy risks like jumping out of airplanes and zip-lining through tall trees. Although we may be creaky here and there, we’re not going down without giving it our all first.
It’s important for us to pursue our passions and stay true to our authentic selves.
We still have our challenges. . .
Being OVER 50 can sometimes be a bitch, especially when it comes to health. It’s important to maintain a healthy weight and stay strong. That isn’t always easy when our hormones are out of whack, the stresses of daily life overtake us, and doing the TWIST throws our back out!
Our modern diet, with fast-food restaurants, over-processed foods, and hefty portions makes it seem like it’s impossible. However, there are ways to get back in shape and enjoy being healthy without having to OD on prescription drugs, swallow 50 supplements a day, drink awful tasting “health” drinks, or give up foods we love.
If we follow the diet and lifestyle of those who have enjoyed long healthy lives it will help make it easier to extend ours.
Being idealistic isn’t all bad. . .
We need to keep thinking positive thoughts. Our “bridge over troubled waters” may have made us who we are today but we have the power to create our own reality. And we can teach those who are younger than us by sharing our experience, knowledge, and expertise as mentors.
Here’s to the next 50 years!

The Baby Boomer Generation rules! OK, Boomer!
