Best of Boomer Blogs: What October is all About

October 24, 2021 by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski 3 Comments

October is a special month of Halloween celebrations, Day of the Dead, pumpkins, and autumn leaves. But did you know it’s also Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Family History Month, Gourmet Adventures Month, National Apple Month, and National Pretzel Month? For a full list of what we honor in October, click here.

Our Baby Boomer bloggers are in full October mode as well. They are getting ready for ghosts and goblins, strolling in nature, traveling, and getting out their winter clothes.  Here is what they have been writing about this month.

Halloween House in Los Angeles

Paying tribute to the dead

Day of the Dead’s coming up, and in honor of all of our loved ones who have made their transition Carol Cassara links on her blog to a beautiful song done by the One Voice Children’s choir, and pays tribute to her own loved ones in her post, Day of the Dead: Here’s to the Ones That We’ve Lost.

Get ready for those goblins

Meanwhile up in Canada

Alberta blogger/poetess Diane Tolley is bracing for the cold weather.

Winter is coming to Canada.

Six to eight months of ice, snow and COLD.

But Canadians are a hardy breed.

This is how they survive…

Out in the wild

You know the feeling when you shouldn’t do something, but do it anyway? That happened this week when Laurie Stone of Musings, Rants & Scribbles came upon a very large, very old snapping turtle in the middle of the road…

On the road

Meryl Baer of Beach Boomer Bulletin traveled this week, the destination Florida, and the reason a grandsitting stint for her three Florida grands. The trip has had its challenges, as she describes in this week’s post, Little Old Lady in a Big Car.

And getting artsy

Tom from Sightings Over Sixty traveled to New York City to meet up with family and take in a special kind of art show. You can probably guess the featured artist by the name of his post Starry Starry Night, and if you’re interested you can probably see the show in a city near you since it’s billed as part of an “immersive craze sweeping America.”

Dispelling fears about setting goals

Over on Unfold and Begin, Jennifer has been seeing a lot of untruths about vision boards being magical or worse, not working at all.  In Don’t Believe These 3 Vision Board Myths, she breaks down the top three untruths and helps you to realize that vision boards can be used to support you in your quest to realize your goals.  But they can’t be used to replace the work that you need to put in along the way.

Rethinking clothing choices

I’ve been on a mission to upgrade my closet which is about 3 feet of space because I have a recording studio inside. One thing I decided was to toss my leggings and pants with elastic waistbands even though they are super comfortable. I have a good reason for it, which you can read about in my post.
