Best of Boomer Blogs: Don’t Fall in Fall

I almost had a disaster happen. In the last few weeks, I’ve been cat-sitting for friends but made it a point to walk for 30 minutes each day at the crack of dawn. Everything was going swimmingly until I tripped on a dried cone or something and fell to the ground.

Miraculously, I only scraped my elbow a little. I was looking and cursing at some nasty political signage and got distracted. So far, I’ve been pretty good at falling and not getting hurt possibly due to a physical acting class I took in the early eighties. Or, I’ve just been lucky. Falls can wipe out seniors in more ways than one.

That night my hip was a little achy but I went out again the next morning and walked a little slower, raising my feet more, and watching every step. I’m not going to let a mean little burr cramp my style.

Lesson: Watch out for fallen objects on the ground during the fall. This isn’t the first time I tripped over one of those suckers.
