A Doctor Tells You How to Clean Your Nose the Right Way

by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski Leave a Comment

We take care of our teeth and eyes, but do we take care of that protrusion in the middle of our face? I’m talking about our noses. Sure, we blow it when it gets runny, we may even spray mist into it, but do we clean it properly? Chances are, we don’t.

I met Dr. Gail Lebovic at an event here in Los Angeles. She’s an Oncoplastic Surgeon who specializes in breast cancer and breast reconstruction. She is also a creative inventor and successful serial entrepreneur. She developed a nose-cleaning wand and antiseptic gel called NasoClenz.

NasoClenz is a wand and antiseptic gel that you can use every day to clean your nose and keep it moisturized. The wand is soft and flexible.

About NasoClenz

If you suffer from allergies, proper nose cleaning can help alleviate it. Bacteria will easily enter through the nose and can cause allergic reactions as well as upper respiratory illnesses. 84% of people who used NasoClenz saw a reduction in nasal symptoms.

It’s especially effective for traveling. Many people become ill when traveling on a plane or in congested transportation. Planes can cause nasal dryness due to lack of humidity in the air purifying system. When your nose is dry and crusty your fingers become involved which can put even more bacteria into your nasal cavity.

As a surgeon, Dr. Lebovic discovered that the nose is often the cause of surgical infections. She began to research that and dove deeper into it and concluded that our noses are very dirty places. Bacteria colonize the nose, and the hair and skin inside act as a filter. Most of the air we breathe goes into our nose. The air goes higher inside the nose and gets moisturized so the air is prepared for our lungs.

This means there is a direct connection between your nose, your sinuses, and your lungs. Airborne particles like germs, allergens, smoke, and all sorts of chemicals and toxins are inhaled. Dr. Lebovic found that we needed to do something to help our noses.

Don’t pick your nose

Nose picking is a terrible habit but many of us do it, sometimes secretly. However, our hands are contaminated with bacteria that gets introduced into our nose. It then travels into our respiratory system.

The NasoClenz applicator along with the antiseptic gel is like using a toothbrush for your teeth. The antiseptic kills the germs, and the applicator gets rid of the crusty gunk that is inside.

The problem with saline

Most of the nasal products on the market today are saline rinses or sprays that rinse out the sinus cavities. They are good, especially if you are congested. However, saline can dry the delicate tissues in the nose. NasoClenz has the added benefit of moisturizing and can be used as a complimentary product to rinses or sprays.  Also, dryness in the nose leads to picking it.

You can purchase NasoClenz on its website or Amazon here.

It comes in unscented and mint.

Health Tips for Women Over 50

Dr. Lebovic also wanted to leave 2 tips for you as women over 50.

  1. Get your yearly Mammogram. As a doctor who deals with breast cancer and breast reconstruction, this is critical for her.  Mammograms are lifesaving.
  2. Take an exercise stress test. Many doctors do not think to suggest this, but it is ultra important as more women die from heart disease than any other cause. Over 500,000 women die of it each year.  Also eat well, get 30-45 minutes of exercise per day, and once you turn 50 get an exercise stress test. It will help find heart disease before it’s too late. Dr. Lebovic had open heart surgery and was feeling fine until she didn’t.
