This is Fourth of July week, and people are getting ready to celebrate. But there are challenges for sure. The weather has been sweltering throughout most of the United States. We’ve been lucky here in Los Angeles so far, but the heat will eventually set in.
Los Angeles has been experiencing its own kind of heat. We have thousands of Marines and National Guard personnel sitting around doing nothing. Protests have been mostly peaceful. There will always be a few agitators, but very few.
ICE has been brutally assaulting members of our community that we depend on, like nannies, housekeepers, gardeners, day laborers, taco vendors, and anyone who looks suspicious or gets in the way. That includes U.S. citizens.
It’s a dire situation. Some Fourth of July celebrations have been canceled because of it, and many of us aren’t in the mood, which is sad. It’s supposed to be a holiday for all of us, but a lot of us feel MEH!
Meanwhile, our Baby Boomer Bloggers have been writing about their own experiences as summer is in full swing.
Carol Cassara
Like many of us, Carol Cassara looks toward her spiritual beliefs for glimmers of hope in troubled times. Her spiritual beliefs are unapologetically non-traditional, and she’s found an interesting message that gives her some of the hope she seeks. Read about it in A Message from the Other Side for These Difficult Times.
Laurie Stone
It all started with a bad workday in 1986. Laurie sat at her desk in her corporate advertising job and grabbed the nearest stenographer’s notebook she could find. Pulling out a pen, she began writing down her frustrations. Afterwards, she felt better, calmer, even lighter. Thirty-eight years and 113 journals later, the act of scribbling down thoughts and feelings is still necessary for these 5 reasons…
Meryl Baer
Family visits are usually happy occasions, and a visit by Meryl Baer’s son and granddaughter was no exception. A bonus was that she could temporarily avoid listening to, reading about, or talking about current events. The Musings of a Shore Life’s blogger went to the beach, the Boardwalk, rode her bike, and thoroughly enjoyed family time, as she describes in this week’s post.
Rita R. Robison
Watch out for these 10 dangerous toys this summer, advises Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist. Potential hazards, such as beach umbrellas turned into wind-blown projectiles, backyard trampolines linked to catastrophic injuries, public splash pads that may harbor invisible pathogens, and gel beads as “ammunition” from toy guns that a young child could ingest, are just a few of the traps that could lead to preventable tragedies.
I finally got to read it all…such good posts!
