Another year has rolled by, and the Best of Boomer Blogs bloggers have been enjoying the holidays. While some are cozying up to stay warm with bomb cyclones, a few of us have been guiltily basking in perfect weather. Well, maybe we don’t feel that guilty.
All of us are grateful for all our readers who have stuck with us over the years.
Being grateful is what the holidays are about
One of the recurring themes on Corinne’s blog, Everyday Gyaan, is gratitude. She says that it was a life-changer for her. Her post, Gratitude – The Instant Mood Changer, is based on her recent experience of coming out of feeling low.
Holiday magic and good luck
Magic can happen anywhere. Laurie’s mother found this out recently. Facing surgery in a few days, she needed distraction and decided to go shopping in a local clothing store. She strolled around for a while, but nothing caught her eye. As she was leaving, an older woman who was also heading out the door, pointed to a brown coin on the floor. “A lucky penny!” she exclaimed. “Pick it up!”
Shopping angst
Shopping for the holidays is on many people’s minds during this season of celebration.
Diane’s family celebrates Christmas, so it was, for this reason, Diane’s Mom took her (then) five children shopping in the nearest city.
What could have been (and actually started out) a very scary time for neophyte Diane turned into a soft and precious memory that has spanned the generations.
Every day should be a holiday
The holiday spirit has come alive with meaning over at Carol Cassara’s blog, as she writes this week about the role of love in our lives. Read her piece, May Holiday Spirit be with You All Year Round.
Making the best of an imperfect situation
Meryl Baer of Beach Boomer Bulletin is sidelined this holiday season, recovering from surgery. In this week’s post, she tells us how she is passing the time.
Traveling dilemma
Did you know you’re not supposed to put a computer in your checked luggage? Did you know that most airlines won’t reimburse you for electronics in lost luggage? Read about what happened to Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist, when the baggage agent didn’t tell her about this important travel detail.
Getting Christmassy
I’m one of the guilty ones who enjoyed the great weather over the holidays. To get into the Christmas spirit, even though I’m Jewish, my family met up for the weekend in the Danish village of Solvang near Santa Barbara, California. The entire town is decorated to the hilt and crazy Christmas sweaters on people and dogs were everywhere.

Great job Rebecca and a bit jealous of your warm, fun holiday while I sit wrapped in a blanket with the outside temperature hovering at 12 degrees!
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
Yes, so sorry about that Meryl. I hope it will warm up soon for you. As a consolation, it’s supposed to rain here for 5 days and we are hoping it won’t drown out the Rose Parade.
Corinne Rodrigues says
A lovely round up, Rebecca. Glad you had good weather – no need for the guilt! 😉
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
Thanks, Corinne. We’re supposed to have a few days of rain so I’m not feeling as guilty. LOL
Laurie Stone says
Thanks for pulling holiday duty, Rebecca!
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
Thanks, Laurie. It’s always fun!
