If You Love Mind Games You Will Love Solitaire.org

by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski Leave a Comment

I have been trying out the games on a website called Solitaire.org. It literally has hundreds of free games you can play to while away the time. Playing games can be relaxing and brain-stimulating, which is something we need as we get older to fend off dementia.

I’ll be honest and say I have never been much of a gamer and some of the games on the site are a little intimidating for me, especially those that involve math.

I tend to be more attracted to calming games like classic Solitaire, but I also tried out some hidden object games that were fun. Although, I realized that I needed to wear my reading glasses to see the objects.

My problem is that I don’t like reading instructions and even with Solitaire, which I had played before, I found myself going to YouTube to remember how it works.

My father adored playing games and could spend all day playing online bridge, doing crossword puzzles, and figuring out other mind-benders. He not only loved them but also aced them.

Solitaire can be addicting.

It’s a game that doesn’t require too much thinking. In my opinion, it’s perfect to play when you feel stressed and want to take your mind away from things that might be negative.

Solitaire.org has many games to choose from. There’s one for every learning style as not everyone makes sense of games in the same way. An analytical person may enjoy a game like Sudoku or chess while a visual person would rather do a word or object search.

Many of the games on the site remind me of my childhood like Mah Joong, Gin Rummy, and Crazy Eights. You might want to encourage your grandchildren to play with you to get them away from mind-numbing video games.

Easy access to the games

I love that Solitaire.org doesn’t require that you log in or require a password. I suggest you bookmark it on your browser so you can easily find it when you need a break from what you are doing or want to exercise your mind.

A game for everyone

There is a wide variety of games on the site. Some are serious and others are humorous. For instance, one game is called Dog Pooh. The object is to sort dogs and poohs in specific orders. The game makes a pooh noise when you click to place a pooh. LOL

Most of the games have levels you can work up to.  So far, I am at the easy levels but hope to move up to more complicated games over time.

Some of the games like Mah Joong and Solitaire have interesting variations. For example, you can play Animal Connection or Cooking Mah Joong among other types. It makes the site fun.

I realize I need to start playing more games like these to keep my mind in shape.
