Fall is officially upon us, but we can’t always tell the difference here in Los Angeles. We experienced extreme heat for a few weeks, which usually continues into September and October, but it’s been pleasant for the last week or two. I’m hoping it stays that way.
I had to get a new car last week because someone decided to run into my 2007 Prius for no reason. I am perfectly fine. It was a Sunday morning and I was on my way to an event on a quiet one-way street in Old Pasadena. I was on the right and the woman in the lane next to me made a sudden 90-degree turn as if to park. Unfortunately, I was in the way and it crunched two of my doors.
The car still drove but her insurance company decided to total it and gave me a nice payout. I now have an adorable 2021 Jetta which I’m happy about. My Prius got great gas mileage, but after having my catalytic converter stolen in a mall parking lot and replacing two expensive batteries I was done with it. Now, I even have navigation.
Today I am on my way to a 6-week catsitting gig in the Valley for a stray and sort of feral cat. She’ll come into the house for a few seconds but only tolerates me. It’s my 3rd year doing this so I hope she warms up a little.
Meanwhile, our Baby Boomer bloggers have been writing about what’s going on in their lives as summer ends.
Carol Cassara
Among her friends group, Carol Cassara has discovered that she’s one of the few who still cooks for her husband. This week, she’s sharing a tasty chopped salad that’s more preparation that cooking. Take a look at Chopped Salad Recipe Tickles the Taste Buds.
Laurie Stone
We think houses are just wooden structures. Containers, made to hold people and possessions. Houses don’t have souls, Laurie thought. Until she drove by her old home of ten years and her heart broke. This beloved, beautiful ranch had been abandoned.
Meryl Baer
Out-of-town friends visited Meryl Baer of Musings of a Shore Life for a few days. She abandoned her daily routine to spend time with her friends, and enjoyed the break. Baer provides a list of the benefits of a staycation with or without friends in this week’s post.
Rita R. Robison
Get rid of your plastic cutting board and plastic kitchen utensils, says Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist. A new study shows that adults may ingest up to 150,000 harmful plastic particles a year – equal to eating as many as 12 shopping bags annually. Another study found more than 3,600 chemicals that leach into food during the manufacturing, processing, packaging, and storage of the world’s food supply end up in the human body
And that’s it! All of our Baby Boomer bloggers appreciate your comments and social media shares. Let’s keep our generation visible online and otherwise!

Thank God you are ok. It’s nuts out there, sometimes.
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
Thanks, it was a soft hit. But just enough for insurance to claim it as a total loss. She just wasn’t paying attention.
Meryl says
So glad you were not hurt in the accident. Love your new car!
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
Thanks. It turned out to be a good deal in the end. But pretty inconvenient for a few days.
Laurie Stone says
Great job, Rebecca! Glad you’re safe and sound.
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
Thanks, Laurie. Now I am paranoid anytime anyone comes near me on the road. Hopefully, it will pass. But that’s living in L.A.
