It’s been a crazy time in the West. Lahaina, in Maui, burned to the ground which was devastating. I was last there with my kids right after my husband died in 2001. We stayed at the Royal Lahaina in Kaanapali. Our week was spent snorkeling, hanging out in Lahaina town and its magnificent Banyan tree, and biking down the Haleakalā volcano. I wish I could have gone back there again. All our Boomer bloggers’ thoughts and prayers are with the people of Maui.
Today, as I write this, Hurricane Hilary is dumping buckets of rain on Los Angeles. My daughter and daughter-in-law spent the weekend at a bachelorette party in Cabo San Lucas as the hurricane swept past it. They stayed in a beautiful house away from the shore and were safe but were inside most of the time.
Meanwhile, here is what our Boomer bloggers have been writing about. Click on the links to read their posts.

Diane Tolley
Living as far out in the country as Diane’s ranching family did, one needed their neighbours.
Brandings, harvests, round-ups…all went better when a few neighbours came to help.
And with food and, possibly a dance to follow the work? It was paradise!
But sometimes, neighbours showed up to help when they were least expected.
And most needed.
And that’s when the greatest adventures happened…
Laurie Stone
Every couple has them—the occasional rough patch where you can’t speak to each other without considering murder. After 43 years of marriage, Laurie and Randy have had a few. But there’s a small thing that always gets them back on track and reminds them why they’re still together. It’s called a date. Here’s five of their favorite kinds…
Rita R. Robison
Too many real estate agents come with costs for consumers and the industry, says Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist. A new study shows inexperienced agents usually charge the same commissions, many full-time agents have relatively low incomes because there are so many part-time agents, and agents and many consumers are frustrated dealing with inexperienced agents.
Meryl Baer
Meryl Baer of Musings of a Shore Life settled back into her summer routine after two weeks of overseas travel. A favorite summer activity is gardening, and she shares her thoughts in this week’s post.

Wonderful post, Rebecca! Thank you!
The weather is just getting scarier and scarier, isn’t it?!
So glad your daughter was in no danger but my heart aches for the people of Maui.

The devastation in Maui was truly heartbreaking. I still can’t believe it happened.
Carol Cassara says
Hoping for the best for you all down south….take good care!
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
It was basically a rainstorm with a bit of a rumble I never felt. But thanks.
Laurie Stone says
Rebecca, Now I heard you guys had an earthquake on top of everything else. Thank God, it wasn’t bad. Never heard of those two weather events happening at once. Leave it to California to lead the way!
Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski says
Yes, it was a wild weekend. Mostly, I felt trapped because I couldn’t get out of the house which made me dip into the Nutela a little too much.
