I live in a diverse neighborhood in Los Angeles. The neighbors who live at the end of our cul de sac put on a huge fireworks show each year. It’s almost professional. Fireworks are illegal in LA except for approved venues because of fire danger but on the 4th they blast away at multiple locations. We never had to leave our homes to watch them.
It was a war zone of booms and crackles until 1 am. Cops flew over homes in helicopters and drove by in cars but they never bothered anyone. We had a few friends over for a BBQ and celebrated with everyone else. The 4th is terrifying for animals. However, our dog seemed unfazed. On the other hand, the cat spent the evening in a frazzle under my roommate’s bed.
I hope you enjoyed celebrating Independence Day. Freedom is precious. We must preserve it.
Our Baby Boomer bloggers spent the rest of the weekend writing down their thoughts. Here is what they pondered.
Carol Cassara
You may have noticed that Carol Cassara’s been taking quite a few trips down memory lane on her blog this year. This week she takes us back to the days when service stations really did provide service, in Service Stations: a distant memory.
Laurie Stone
It happened one morning. Laurie came out to her back deck to water the plants and found an unexpected scene. Chair cushions and throw pillows lay everywhere. One of the pillows even had a long tear and white stuffing coming out. She stood a second, watching and listening, but only heard the birds Xing. Who were these neighborhood marauders?

And that’s all folks! Stay cool!

Good stuff, Rebecca, thanks!
