I was always a person who loved wearing dresses but started wearing pants because I didn’t want to show off my aging knees. I still love a good dress and I’ve found wrap dresses to be the most attractive choice.
Diane Von Furstenberg debuted the wrap dress in 1974 and they are still popular fifty years later because they are so figure flattering.
They show off your figure
We tend to hide our flab under shapeless blouses and roomy dresses as we get older and wider. Wrap dresses work even if you have a big tummy as I do. They are flowy, feminine, and classy.
If you are worried about your saggy arm flaps, choose a dress with sleeves and for crinkly knees, a knee or midi length. You may not have the perfect hourglass figure, but a wrap dress will give you waist definition. Some styles will hide all sorts of trouble spots. Many are V-neck which is sexy and shows off your cleavage.
This Karen Kane Cascade wrap dress comes in black, navy, and red with ¾ inch sleeves and is ultra sleek. The ruching where it ties at the waist camouflages excess flab.
Some wrap dresses have deep V-necks that may be a little too risqué especially if you have a wrinkly neckline. If it is too low, but you love the dress, you can always add a snap or pin for a more modest look.
I also love asymmetrical hemlines that are longer in the back than the front. A flash of the leg at knee length is enticing.
This Ralph Lauren Wrap Dress from Macy’s is classy and lovely.
This Kiyonna Whimsey Wrap Dress from Nordstrom is a stunner in Cobalt Blue.
Sometimes dresses with asymmetrical ruffles on the skirt will help distract from your belly area.
Dresses with small geometric prints disguise flaws. This Kaspar wrap dress from Macy’s is a perfect example. It also wraps closer to the bustline which can disguise a larger tummy.
