Why You Don’t Have to Be Young to Look Like a Fashion Icon

by Stella Green Thompson Leave a Comment

If you are a woman over 50 your age has made you more profound, genuine, sophisticated, and majestic. Like a fine wine, the older you are the more refined you get. You are never too old to upgrade your style as you age. So why not dress like a fashion icon if it makes you feel good?

If you need a little more pizzazz, the tips below will help you add a few refinements to help you feel more confident in how you look.

First, access your lifestyle preferences, your taste in colors and materials, and your body shape. Then adjust the suggestions below to develop a personal style that is authentically you.

Start with classic wardrobe pieces

A stylish older woman stands out from the crowd but blends in with her surroundings. It’s always best to stick with classic and basic styles and add a trendy item or two to suit your personality. Sophisticated women dress in tones of black, gray, tan, navy, or white. Then they accessorize those pieces with items like a quality designer handbag a scarf with pops of color, or a pair of red heels.

With shoes, you don’t have to settle for the ordinary but make sure they are comfortable and sturdy enough to prevent you from falling. You don’t want to ruin a fabulous outfit or your body by tripping in stiletto heels.

Statement jewelry can take your outfit to the next level

One factor in defining your personal style over 50 is to wear refined accessories #accessories #jewelry #personalstyle #fashionover50 #styleover50

Don’t go overboard wearing mass amounts of jewelry because it can overwhelm your look, especially if you are petite. All you need is a stand-out piece or a delicate chain to make an inexpensive outfit look like a million bucks.

Jewelry should be worn to reflect your mood, personality, and the appropriateness of the occasion. For instance, if you are out on a casual stroll with your girlfriends and you’re wearing a skinny black pair of pants and a silk blouse, why not contrast that monotoned look with a stunning pair of turquoise earrings?

Are you too comfortable in your clothes?

Sunglasses make a fashion statement

It’s tempting to spend your days wearing stretch pants and sweatsuits especially if you are no longer working but that can not only take a toll on your self-esteem but can also cause you to put on weight. You can still dress casually in jeans or slacks but add some flash to what you are wearing like popping on a pair of sexy sunglasses or slipping into a silky kimono.

Ditch your elastic waistbands and put on a pair of comfy jeans with a vintage rock band tee shirt. Or wear a flowy skirt with a cashmere sweater. The more you dress up your casual look, the better you will feel about yourself despite the ravages of aging.

Minimalism = elegance

A minimalistic approach to personal style over 50 is often a better way to be classy and stylish. #fashionover50 #styleover50 #personalstyle

Taking a minimalistic approach to your style and developing a simple capsule wardrobe of neutral colors with strategic color accents is the epitome of sleek sophistication. High-end designer labels have nothing to do with being truly fashionable. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look put together. Simple wardrobe choices with a touch of something out of the ordinary are the key to fashion chic.

Try wearing all-black pants and a top paired with a pair of baby pink shoes, or denim blue jeans and a white button-down blouse with snakeskin ankle boots.

Timeless personal style with a twist

Classic wardrobe and accessories are always timeless. You can make the most of them in developing your personal style when you add a twist.

Just because you are older doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable, sexy, and stylish. You may want to experiment with your fashion choices and push some boundaries until you find your unique style.

Think of it as a work in progress. Don’t restrict yourself to what you think an older woman should wear. Strive to wear clothes that reflect who you truly are but don’t be afraid to show YOU to the world.

You are never too old to develop your own unique personal style in fashion.
