OliviaUmma: Korean Skincare and an LA Style Event

by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski 3 Comments

I attended an event in Beverly Hills for fashion and beauty bloggers and influencers to promote a new Korean skincare brand, inspired by Tanghulu dessert, called OliviaUmma.

The event intended to introduce Los Angeles influencers to OliviaUmma’s “Glass Skin” skincare line created by HyeYoung Kim and her teenage daughter Olivia Yanuzzi. It is based on Tanghulu fruit which is a globally trending Korean dessert.

LA Style in full throttle for Spring

The styles of the LA influencers at our event ran the gamut of creativity. Granted, I was the oldest one there but I was in awe of the fashion around me.

It was the beginning of Spring, and still chilly from a rainstorm. The influencers were wearing an array of cool and warm clothing. When the sun came out their chic trenchcoats came off and white and cream was a theme. (Not intentionally, it just happened.)

I’m sometimes afraid to wear white as an older and not skinny woman. I tend to gravitate toward dark colors. However, there is nothing as chic and airy as a white outfit. The trick to wearing it is to go monochrome on the top and bottom. If you color block wearing a white shirt tucked into black pants, or vice versa, it cuts you in half and makes you look wider.

Another trick is to wear a skinny top with wider bottoms or a flowing blouse with skinnier pants. Never go wide on top or bottom or skinny on top or bottom because it will make you look huge.

You can also wear a dark shirt with white pants and a longer white overshirt left open because it disguises a muffin top.

When I was in Los Cabos for my daughter’s wedding, I wore linen clothing because it was cool and luxurious.

Older and stout women tend to go baggy which is a huge mistake. You don’t want to look like you’re wearing a tent. Instead, opt for a tailored look. It’s more figure-flattering.

Don’t be afraid to wear color

For Spring and Summer colors can be elegant. Not everyone can wear white. If that is true for you, try cream or light lavender.

Black and some whites can wash out an older woman bringing more attention to her wrinkles or sallow skin. Adding pops of color will wake up your face and make you look younger.

I love jewel tones like turquoise or deep blue because I have more of a winter complexion. Spring complexions radiate with warm greens, yellows, orangey reds, peach, and pale beige. Summer women look amazing in powder blues or soft pinks. Autumn ladies shine in olive greens, camels, and mustard yellow.

It’s always a good idea to learn what colors suit your complexion. My mother was a color consultant so I grew up with that.

LA Style is what you want it to be

At our event, I saw women wearing ultra high fashion, Kim Kardashian curvy, Billie Eilish anti-chic, K Pop, bold and loud, feminine, sexy, biker, ripped and shredded, Boho, and super casual.

LA Style influencers on the patio.

Shoes went from pointy stilettos to hot pink baby dolls, rhinestone cowboy boots, and plenty of sneakers. LA Style is all about being yourself and rocking individual style.

It was not all about designer labels either. There were a few luxury purses and accessories but much of it was probably thrift shop, artisan-made, or practical.

Nothing says LA Style like sunglasses. We all wear them here. They were being worn in all shapes and styles. glitzy, designer, and colorful.

I’m an LA kind of gal and love it like crazy!

All pretty, flowing clothes. Alas, in Connecticut, we have to wait for summer to dress so airily.
