Stylish Fall Clothing For Women Over 50 for 2026

by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski 2 Comments

Fall fashion depends on where you live. Here in Los Angeles, we barely know the difference between seasons. Still, you always want to be prepared for autumn weather and find flattering fashion pieces. As women over 50, it’s easy to look like Pillsbury Dough Girls in overly bulky and shapeless clothing.

When the weather cools down, I love natural fabrics such as wool, especially cashmere and silk, because they breathe. Some of us still get hot flashes no matter how chilly it is, and that’s an important consideration.

We may be older, but that doesn’t mean that style doesn’t matter. Goofy sweaters with pumpkins on them only make us look like pumpkins.

I’ve picked out a few trendy fashion ideas I love that you may want to consider for fall.

Cashmere sweaters uplevel your style

Nothing is as soft and comfortable as cashmere when it comes to sweaters. Lands’ End is known for its quality, and this funnel neck sweater is divine.

Quince also offers affordable, high-quality cashmere sweaters and has become one of my favorite online shopping destinations. I recently bought a beautiful navy cashmere V-neck sweater from Quince that I love!

A silk blouse always looks sophisticated and is wonderful to layer under a heavier coat or sweater. Silk is thermal and will keep you warm in cold weather and cool when it’s hot. This tailored silk blouse by Lilysilk is crafted from high-quality silk that is sure to last.

Bring back Corderoy

Corderoy always had a cushy feel, and this pair of Maple Toffee wide-leg trousers from Lands’ End shouts fall fashion!

Stay cozy in a Blazer/Cardigan

A blazer-style cardigan is made out of a knit material with lapels and is an excellent clothing item to travel with because it doesn’t wrinkle. I found one from Lands’ End that I really like in navy blue. It’s available in several colors.

Flannel plaid jackets never go out of style

Flannel plaid jackets have been around for decades. Trendy Queen on Amazon has an assortment of flannel “shacket” jackets that are perfect for casual occasions or to wear around the house. They’re soft and warm because they are made with a wool blend.

Nothing says fall like an amazing pair of boots

I love these knee-length Jessie boots by Naturalizer. They come in black leather (pictured), chocolate, and cinnamon, and have a low comfortable heel for safety.

$800 for a pair of slacks. $550 for a coat. I know things are more expensive, but that’s so far out of my over-50 budget that it makes me laugh. I’d like ideas of where to find the expensive clothes at social security price tags. I’m not poor, but paying $800 for a pair of slacks is just plain nonsense for most people. I like all the ideas and am going to look for a small-patterned blazer. I think it will dress up my plain old Goodwill blue jeans. Thanks for all your hard work to bring fashion to mature ladies.

      Hi Renee,
Thanks. I really appreciate that type of feedback. I try to mix up the price ranges because I’m more in your position and shop mostly at discount stores myself. But there are a few of my readers who love luxury so I like to offer choices. Also, it’s all about the style. It could inspire someone to find something similar for less. I’m so glad you like my fashion posts and I will certainly keep your comment in mind.
