Grouchy, negative, sullen, abusive, nasty, irresponsible, are not generally thought of as keys to success in life. Even if you are retired, your success as a human being is at risk if your attitude sucks. No one wants to be around you, your kids hate you, you lose friends and end up unhappy in the end.
There’s nothing wrong with being angry at injustice, rebellious, or against the norm, but all those things get old if you aren’t respectful to those you are attempting to influence.
Self- induced or substance induced?
Have you ever been in a relationship with a person who abused substances like drugs and alcohol? It’s excruciating. I know. I was there. They either get nasty and abusive or horrendously depressed. Sure, they may be the life of the party, or charming at times to others, but if you’re the one living with them you see the dark side it will affect your attitude and bring you down if you let them.
Most addictive personalities don’t realize they’ve gone over the edge until it’s too late. They think they’re immune and it’s easy to be hoodwinked by them. They need help. If they don’t get it, they will make your life a living hell.
Addiction takes many forms. Even a teetotaler can be an addict. A person may be addicted to the spotlight, always wanting to grab attention. In some instances, that can be just as destructive as drinking a daily quart of vodka.
Recognize what they are doing and work toward your own happiness. Stay positive and get away from them if you can.
Stay away from toxic people
A controlling or narcissistic person is insecure, lacks empathy, and only thinks about themselves. They may be charismatic and draw people in, promising that they are the be-all and end-all. But a person with that type of personality will eventually create chaos and their dark attitude will become toxic to those around them.
Once a liar, always a liar. Once a cheater, always a cheater. It’s in their DNA. They will say anything to get what they want even if it’s a bald-faced lie and are seriously good at it. They will convince you that they’re on your side but won’t be seen with you after they get what they want because they feel you are beneath them. If you reject them, they will claim it’s all your fault.
Those kinds of people are toxic and you can become who you hang around. Search for those who share your interests, joys, and passions and will lift your attitude up rather than down.
Kindness, respect, compassion, and a positive attitude win out in the end
I’m an optimistic person and I believe good wins over evil. In most instances, you will be better off with someone who is pure at heart even if you don’t completely agree with them. They may not be perfect, but they are sure to be more successful and constructive than someone who has a chronically negative attitude.
