Sweet Sunrise Shampoo and Conditioner: Natural Hair Care Review

August 11, 2021 by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski Leave a Comment

Does the idea of safe and natural hair care appeal to you? We’re constantly hearing about all the toxic ingredients that go into our hair care products. Annmarie Skin Care gave me samples of their Sweet Sunrise Shampoo and Conditioner to try and I was excited because the hair care products I was using weren’t doing the job.

As we all know, personal care products, from makeup to hand soap and even toothpaste aren’t that well regulated by the FDA. Oh sure, they make the grade, but it’s a big-money industry, and ingredients that are said to cause harm are still in many of the formulas.

The list below are hair care ingredients you want to avoid:

  • Sulfates – If your shampoo laters up with massive suds, it probably contains sulfates. Sulfates remove dirt and oil. But they also strip the scalp of the vital moisture that contributes to healthy hair. Some contain hints of a carcinogen called dioxane, which has been linked to kidney issues and cancer. You don’t want to remove all the oil in your hair. In fact, it’s recommended that you only shampoo your hair once or twice a week instead of everyday to retain your natural oils.
  • Polyethylene Glycol – Most commonly listed as PEG, this chemical was deemed by the state of California as a “development toxicant,” which means it disrupts development and/or behavior.
  • Triclosan – Research suggests that this antibacterial ingredient can cause inflammation of the colon, disruption to the immune system, and colon cancer since it alters gut microbiota found in the intestines.
  • Parabens – Parabens are considered to be the most common toxic ingredient in the beauty industry because their role is to prevent harmful bacteria and mold growth.
  • Fragrances – With over 3,100-plus chemicals used in the fragrance industry, it’s no wonder people often have allergic reactions to them and who knows what they may be doing to your body?

So, what makes Sweet Sunrise Shampoo and Conditioner different?

Sweet Sunrise Shampoo and Conditioner by AnnMarie Skin Care - Natural hair care

Sweet Sunrise shampoo is a natural hair care product that is designed to hydrate and purify your hair gently and is infused with herbs so your hair smells like you just stepped out of a meadow.

  • Organic Aloe vera hydrates and nourishes dry, damaged hair.
  • Nettles restore the integrity of roots, while horsetail—rich in strengthening minerals—shields against free radicals.
  • Essential oils of lemon fruit and orange peel pair beautifully with parsley and basil oil for a bright, luxurious experience. Leaves hair supple, fortified, and alive.

Sweet Sunrise conditioner restores your hair but is lightweight and combines antioxidant-rich herbs and essential oils.

My honest opinion of the products

The full-size Sweet Sunrise Shampoo and Conditioner is a little on the pricey side but if natural hair care products are important to you, it’s worth it. My hair is color-treated and fine. It’s has a tendency to be dry. The shampoo I was using most recently had Argan Oil in it but totally dried out my hair. I felt quite a difference with Sweet Sunrise Shampoo and Conditioner after I washed my hair with it.

For one thing, it smells great and has a soft herbal natural fragrance that isn’t overwhelming. My fine dry hair was still a little wispy after washing my hair so I may need to give it a hot oil treatment to get it back to normal. However, I could feel the difference from using my other shampoo because my hair felt soft and lustrous.

I don’t use any other product in my hair and don’t blow dry it. In fact, I don’t even own a blow dryer. Instead, I let it drip dry because it causes less damage over time.
