When I was in Los Cabos with my daughter a year ago we had a ball. You can read about our trip here. Now I can’t wait to go back. At a press event, I learned about “Sabor a Cabo,” an annual food and wine festival. Four Los Cabos top chefs were there with samplings of their appetizers. To say our tasting was fantastic would be an understatement.
The event took place at the rock and roll-themed open patio/bar Rock and Brews in El Segundo, near the airport. Dave Furano is one of its co-founders and was there to greet us. Rock & Brews also has restaurants in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

Experience fine Mexican and world cuisine
Our visiting chefs were Rodrigo Cabeza de Vaca from La Galeria, Ángel Carbajal from Nick-San, Jesús Castro from Edith’s and The Office, and Paolo de la Corte from Sunset Mona Lisa. Over 50 chefs from around the world participate at “Sabor a Cabo” as well as local wineries and art galleries. If you’re thinking this is starchy Mexican food like we have in the states, think again. “Sabor a Cabo” is a gourmet culinary extravaganza that rivals the best of the best in fine cuisine. It’s foodie Paradise times 10.
My daughter and I had dinner at the spectacular Sunset Mona Lisa Restaurant when we were there. It’s dubbed “one of the coolest 5 restaurants in the world” according to The New York Times and I whole-heartedly agree. We enjoyed Michelin Star quality meals that were “works of art” as we sat on outdoor tables set on cliffs overlooking the El Arco rocks across Cabo San Lucas Bay.
Proceeds from the festival benefit the community
“Sabor a Cabo,” organized by CANIRAC -Los Cabos Chapter of the National Chamber of Restaurants and Seasoned Foods Industry, is in its 11th year. Chef Rodrigo is chairman of the Los Cabos chapter. On December 10th, Mexico’s most popular pop band Maná will perform a concert. The proceeds will benefit local Firemen, the Los Cabos Children Foundation, and the Red Cross. Thousands of tourists and locals will attend.
