I’m excited because I’ve recently joined a group of fabulous Baby Boomer bloggers who share their posts on a weekly thread called Best Boomer Blogs. This is their 522nd edition. Several of the posts are about what’s in the news. How can we avoid it these days? Other posts offer solutions about how to deal with the anxiety of daily life or how to escape it.
Although Veteran’s Day was yesterday, we shouldn’t put supporting our Veteran’s behind us. In this post, Jennifer Koshak from Unfold and Begin reminds us of the mental health cost of being at war for 16 years. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is real and is not only affecting our most recent Vets but something many of our Vietnam Veterans are still suffering through. Being afraid to identify themselves as victims of PTSD is one factor that delays treatment. Read How To Support the Vets with PTSD for information on new treatment options that are available.
As a side note, I also recommend that everyone see the movie “Thank You For Your Service” that deals with that very issue.
Election Day 2017 has come and gone. Before we relegate the event to the election heap of history and forget about it, Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting has a few words to say about the results, as well as the major election three years off. Read her comments in Countdown to the 2020 Presidential Election Installment #3.
On The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, writes about the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, and how citizens need to elect lawmakers who will adopt stronger gun control laws. Robison also offers a list of nine organizations so people can work with others to make progress toward gun control. Read Rita’s suggestions on what you can do to end gun violence here.
My most recent post deals with the sexual harassment issue that has been in the news lately, especially after the Harvey Weinstein accusations. I go more in depth about why Baby Boomers are suddenly speaking out about the experiences they had from over 40 years ago and tell my story of trying to make it as an actress in Hollywood. You can read about it here.
But don’t stress out!
Maybe the world has always been this anxious. But the number of anxiety drugs being prescribed says that many of us are dealing with this troublesome and sometimes crippling condition. Is it possible to control anxiety? At A Healing Spirit’s new blog, Carol Cassara offers a way to frame events so they are not so anxiety-producing, as well as a downloadable audio that might be of help. Read Carol’s post here.
You can always escape to get away from what’s in the news and contemplate your future
Tom Sightings has moved on down to a warmer climate, at least temporarily. The change in location has him thinking about how this will affect his lifestyle — and made him wonder What Is a Snowbird anyway?
When life gives you lemons there’s the comfort of home to make everything right with the world no matter what is happening in the world
What a long strange trip it’s been!
