Best of Boomer Blogs: The Times We Are a Changin’

November 10, 2019 by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski 12 Comments

Here in California, we moved our clocks back as we move closer to winter – Fall Back – Spring Forward. Daylight savings always messes with your head. My dogs are completely confused. We’ve all been waking up realizing it’s still the middle of the night. And, of course, the times have been a-changin’ too. But somehow, it’s reminiscent of when we were young, angry, and idealistic. Our Baby Boomer bloggers have been writing about some of this in their blogs. Or, are finding ways to deal with it.

Best of Boomer blogs - the times we are a changin'

So, you say you want a revolution

Sometimes it feels as though kindness is in short supply today. But the power of kindness can’t be denied. Carol Cassara over at A Healing Spirit asks if we can start a kindness revolution today and gives some easy ideas we can carry through every day in “Who Can You Validate Today ?”

All you need is love

Have you heard about the book, “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman? To Laurie Stone of Musings, Rants & Scribbles, they at first sounded corny, but the more she read about them, the more she found them intriguing.  She saw how she and her husband Randy share most… but are still working on one… and don’t share another at all.

She’s a very kinky girl

Maybe it’s a little whoopie you want. I interviewed two women who are experts in Senior Sex. One is a 76-year-old sexpert and the other is a well-known adult film star. They made a film to educate the public. You just never know who you’ll interview when you’re a blogger.

Gimme shelter

Last week Tom at Sightings Over Sixty was suddenly confronted by a crucial issue of our times. There’s not much more to say. Read all about it in Shelter in Place!

Hello darkness my old friend

Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting is not a fan of cold weather, a.k.a. winter, but there are one or two bright spots in the dark, dismal season. This week she writes about one of her winter survival techniques in her post, Binge-Watching Bliss.

The sounds of silence

Enjoying a morning cup of coffee or chamomile tea as the evening winds down.  Reading a book or writing in a  journal before bed.  Chanting OM at the end of a yoga class. All are rituals. Rituals are usually associated with spiritual or religious ceremonies, but they are also a part of everyday life. Jennifer, of Unfold And Begin, asks the question:  What Rituals Do You Love?

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree

On the Boomer Consumer, Rita R. Robison recommends readers take a look at an article on five ways to stretch your money this holiday season. By Mike Thomas, a guest financial journalist on her blog, among the suggestions are having one or two large holiday parties and pooling resources, using discount gift cards, shopping at the dollar store, and signing up with Groupon.

The times may be changin’ but we’re still rockin’ on.

How are you dealing with changing times or the time change? LOL Please leave a comment below.

My dogs have been confused as well! They dance around me wanting their meal, poor things! I agree that kindness is in short supply, and we all need to reach out. I went to the funeral of a 26 year old kid yesterday, he committed suicide. It is so tragic, and I know we all need to be considerate of our fellow creatures!

That’s so sad about your friend. You are so right about taking time to reach out, Tam.
