Best of Boomer Blogs – Baby Boomer Bloggers Give Us the Facts

September 16, 2018 by Rebecca Forstadt-Olkowski 10 Comments

In this week’s installment, the Best of Boomer Blogs bloggers give us the facts about a variety of topics ranging from enjoying retirement to health and fitness, marketing, and consumer alerts.  It’s always a potpourri but shows that Boomers aren’t taking life lying down. We’re out there doing things even if we’re just watching the sunset. No matter what, we’re staying active, taking charge of our mental and physical health, and living our best lives.

Best of #Boomer #Blogs - #babyboomer #bloggers give us the facts about #retirement #wellness #healing #marketing #fitness and more

So, let’s start with the facts about enjoying retirement

We all know it’s important to do something “meaningful” in retirement. But Tom Sightings, says that sometimes, just sometimes, it’s nice to relax and do … absolutely nothing. Check out The Joys of Doing Nothing to see how he does it — and maybe get some ideas for how to enjoy doing nothing yourself. Tom’s got retirement down whether he’s traveling across the country or teaching classes to share his knowledge. He deserves to take it easy once in a while.

But in order to enjoy retirement, you have to stay healthy

And that means staying physically strong.

Most of us hear the word weight training and immediately think of lifting heavy weights in the gym and looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger with bulging muscles. However, in reality, we can build strength in different ways and the best way I find is using our own body weight.  No expensive gym memberships required.  Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond discusses How to Strengthen & Tone Your Body Without Spending A Cent.

Sue is amazing when it comes to physical prowess, and is in incredible shape. We can only wish to have her stamina.

Women over 60 have already gone through menopause, but there isn’t often information about what to be aware of post-menopause. Rebecca interviewed Dr.Charlotte Yeh, MD, who is the Chief Medical Officer for AARP Services, Inc. She gave her facts about what women should know about their bodies as they grow older.

Baby Boomers are also improving their mental capacities to aid in healing

Over at A Healing Spirit, Carol Cassara talks about how she used visualization to head off an illness while on vacation..and to her surprise,  it worked. Mind-body healing will be used more in coming years, she believes. Carol’s website will give you the tools to overcome grief and heal your body. Plus, she sells beautiful products you will love for yourself or to give as gifts.

There are more Boomers online than most people know and having a blog is one way we share our wisdom and experience with the world

Jennifer and her husband raced down the east coast last Wednesday to get to Florida ahead of Florence.  She had an appointment to keep at the EBA Live Activate Blogging conference in Orlando.  It was the application to this particular conference that inspired her latest post on Unfold And Begin entitled Do I Really Have A Niche-Less Blog?

Conferences are a great way to learn new skills, meet others who share your interests and keep up with new trends. Have you been to any great conferences lately?

And then there’s consumer awareness – important for our health and protection

Consumer products we know and love sometimes eventually lose their allure, replaced by other commodities. Years later the items are reincarnated in a different form. Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting writes about a line of products that took the country by storm in the 1950s. Sales declined by the turn of the 21st century, however, but with some new twists, these products are once again gaining popularity. Read about What Goes Around Comes Around…Eventually.

Are you still eating TV dinners? Asking for a friend.

On The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, reports that a federal agency is cracking down on the sale and marketing of e-cigarettes to kids. The Food and Drug Administration issued more than 1,300 warning letters and fines to retailers who illegally sold JUUL and other e-cigarette products to minors during a nationwide, undercover sting of retail and online stores this summer. The FDA said e-cigarette use among youth is at epidemic levels.

This is so important because what you do in your youth comes to haunt you when you’re older.  Boomers can give those in younger generations facts they need to know to avoid making mistakes they will regret when they’re older.

Great points from some great posts and writers! I love the re-marketing of frozen diners from grab and go meals in the grocery store having their own section to fresh entrees with an international flair to frozen dinners with a specific diet plan, weight watchers etc!

I agree Haralee, there are so many healthy options for grab and go meals. So much better than the frozen dinners we used to eat when we were young.
